Why Fiberglass Pools? We're Glad You Asked!

We only offer fiberglass pools, and here is why. Concrete takes months to install and needs resurfacing every decade. Vinyl liner pools need the liner replaced on a similar timeline. Fiberglass goes in the ground in days, without the downtime or maintenance costs of those major repairs over the life of the pool, and costs less to maintain year after year. The install is faster, but the real advantage shows up every summer after that.

    • Installed in days: No curing time, no waiting on weather. Your pool is ready to fill as soon as it’s in the ground.
    • Longevity: Fiberglass holds up for decades without the repair costs and interruption of concrete resurfacing or liner replacement.
    • Lower chemical costs: The non-porous finish resists algae and keeps water chemistry more stable. Less product, less time managing it.
    • Built-in features: Tanning ledges, bench seating, and entry steps molded into the shell, not added on afterward.
    • Warranty-backed: Every shell we install carries manufacturer structural warranty coverage.

How long do fiberglass pools last?

A fiberglass pool shell can last 25 to 30 years or more, depending on use and maintaining proper water chemistry balance. The gel coat surface holds up well over time and doesn’t require the resurfacing a concrete pool needs every 10 to 15 years. The structure itself is designed to outlast most other pool types.

How do fiberglass pools hold up during Pittsburgh winters?

Fiberglass pools hold up well in Western PA winters as they handle freeze-thaw cycles better than concrete. The fiberglass shell has some flexibility built in, allowing it to move slightly with ground shifts rather than cracking under pressure. Proper winterization is still required, and it’s important to not drain the pool lower than the skimmer because it will void the warranty.

Do fiberglass pools need a liner?

The fiberglass shell is the surface, so it does not require a liner. That also means there’s no liner to replace and no resurfacing. The fiberglass shell we install is what you swim in for the life of the pool.

Can fiberglass pools crack?

Rarely. Fiberglass is more flexible than concrete, which actually works in its favor in variable soil and freeze-thaw conditions. Fiberglass pool manufacturers also provide structural warranties for the pool shell. In the rare event of cracking, poor installation or site preparation is the most likely cause. This is one reason having the owner on-site for every installation matters.

Do you handle the full project or just the pool?

Inground Pools handles the full pool installation, including excavation, plumbing, backfill, pool equipment, and pool startup. We coordinate with other contractors for electrical, concrete, and landscaping needs.
